Why Save Quogue Exists

Quogue already has people and organizations deeply committed to preserving its history. The Quogue Historical Society does extraordinary work preserving, advocating for, and celebrating Quogue’s past.

SAVE QUOGUE was created to fill a different role: to push for stronger laws, clearer standards, and meaningful changes to the Village Code.

That is why SAVE QUOGUE is seeking 501(c)(4) status: to advocate more forcefully for legislative and political change.

We are not asking Quogue to be exceptional. We are asking Quogue to stop being the exception. Other Hamptons communities already have stronger preservation protections and more meaningful design standards. Quogue should too.

Preservation and thoughtful new design can coexist. Neighboring communities already reflect that balance. In and around the Historic District, new construction should respect its surroundings. Elsewhere, there should be more room for contemporary and architecturally adventurous design - but not generic builder-spec houses that diminish the distinctive character of a community.

We do not believe Quogue should wait another decade to act. Once its historic fabric and distinctive character are lost, they are difficult, if not impossible, to recover.
