Dear Quogue,

We are residents joining together to help prevent the continued loss of Quogue’s unique character.

The warning signs are everywhere: mistakes, missed opportunities, and the steady erosion of the Village’s distinctive character. That erosion was once slow. It is now accelerating. Speculators increasingly see Quogue as an easy target.

Like many residents, we assumed the Village had strengthened its protections after the Quogue Historic District was listed on the National Register in 2016.

We were wrong.

After examining Quogue’s Code and practices - and comparing them with those of neighboring Hamptons communities - we found that Quogue lags far behind.

SAVE QUOGUE brings residents together to advocate for clearer laws, stronger standards, and meaningful action to protect the qualities that make Quogue unique.

Preservation and thoughtful new design can coexist. Neighboring communities already reflect that balance. In and around the Historic District, new construction should respect its surroundings. Elsewhere, there should be more room for contemporary and architecturally adventurous design, so long as it is thoughtfully designed and enhances, rather than detracts from, the Village as a whole.

Quogue still has the opportunity to catch up with its neighbors, protect what makes it special, and shape its future - but it needs to act now.
